School History

Liberty Middle School began operation in August 1985 in the building that was vacated when the new Liberty High School opened. It was in this facility that fifth through eighth graders came together to form the first "middle" school in Pickens County. Dennis Somerville served as the school's principal from 1985 – 2005. Following Mr. Somerville was Donivan Edwards, who led the staff and students from 2005 - 2014. Beginning in 2015 Dr. Tim Mullis began his service at LMS.  At the end of the 2016-17 school year Dr. Mullis told the faculty he would be moving to the District Office and Dr. Lisa Cassidy our new principal was hired to serve our students and community.

August of 2012, the faculty, staff, and students of LMS moved into a new building. The building that formerly housed Liberty High School was completely renovated and updated Moving to the new location the mascot was changed from the Eagles to the LMS Falcons. Beginning in the school year of 2023-2023 in order to unite the community recreation program and the schools, LMS will officially become the LMS Red Devils. We are proud to have this beautiful facility where we learn, grow, and enjoy each day.
