Welcome To Liberty Middle School!
The 2015-2016 school year was filled with successes and challenges in and out of the classrooms. Based on our 2014-2015 ACT Aspire assessments we implemented a three year literacy initiative. This year our focus was on domain specific literacy in all content areas through a five minute read to start classes. We believe that our emphasis on literacy will help prepare our students not only to be successful in school but beyond the classrooms.
With the addition of more computer carts from the district, we decided to take all high stakes tests on line this year instead of taking them with paper and pencil. This proved to be one of our challenges - trying to schedule grade levels and spacing them out to not overwhelm the students. We feel that this will help our students in the future as our state moves to on-line administration of SCREADY.
Students at Liberty Middle School who took Algebra I and /or English I End-of-Course exams had a passing rate of 99%. English I had 100% passage rate with over 50% of the students making an A on the exam with 11 students making a perfect score. Algebra I had over 50% of the students make an A on the exam with nine students making perfect scores.
We had a very successful sports year in our newly designed AOP Division III Conference. It started in the fall with the Girls’ Volleyball team winning the regular season Division III Conference title with an 8-0 conference record and Division III Tournament Championships. Our Football team also won the Division III Conference with a 4-0 mark. Our Girls’ Basketball team made it to the finals of the Division III Conference Tournament but lost in a close game.
Students at LMS can find other ways to get involved in school programs. We have a music department that includes Band, Strings, and Chorus. All three programs held winter and spring concerts. This year our Band and Strings programs received “Excellent” ratings from the South Carolina Music Educators Association competition. We also offer the following clubs and organizations: Beta Club, Ecology Club, Robotics Club and Student Council. Many students take advantage of membership in these clubs. In addition, we hold “club day” once a month so that students may enjoy additional activities that range from kickball club to yoga club. We feel it is important to enrich student experiences by encouraging them to become involved in extracurricular offerings.
