Cancellation of school or early dismissal due to weather conditions will be announced on local radio and television stations. The message will also be posted on the SDPC website. Parents/Guardians should stay tuned to broadcasts, or check the website, when the potential for inclement weather exists. District officials will attempt to make decisions by 6:00 a.m. concerning school closing.
Please do not call the school during weather emergencies, as it is most important that the school telephone lines be kept clear for receiving emergency information. Students should not plan to use the office phone during early dismissal for the same reason. Students should be well advised beforehand by parents/guardians as to the individual procedures they are to follow in the event of an emergency.
All students will participate in monthly fires drills in accordance with district policy. Tornado, earthquake, intruder, evacuation, and other drills are conducted during the school year to insure the safety and welfare of students in the event of a real emergency. Bus students participate in emergency evacuation drills, as well.
