District Announcements
Dr. Danny Merck Named New Superintendent
We're happy to introduce Dr. Danny Merck as the new Superintendent of the School District of Pickens County. Dr. Merck comes to the position with 23 years of experience in education, most of which were spent right here in the district. Dr. Merck has served in roles including teacher, coach, principal and district administrator. For the past two years, he has been the principal of Daniel High School.
He will officially step into his new leadership role on May 1. Until then, he will work with the board of trustees and our current Superintendent, Dr. Kelly Pew, to ensure a smooth transition.

Changes To School Calendar!
The 2013-2014 School Calendar was revised for the remainder of the school year on March 24. These calendars reflect changes because of snow days. We are using all three of the snow days that were built into the calendar at the start of the year, and the remaining snow days were forgiven by the board.

Key Changes:
  • School ends on June 6.
  • Exams (except for seniors) will be from June 3-6.
  • Schools will be open on April 21, May 23 and June 6.
  • Several grading period and report card dates have shifted.

Several students distinguished themselves with awards, including Morgan Summerlin of Daniel High School, who took first place in the high school division with her painting, "Robin's Nest" (pictured left).

Help Reward Our School with Cash Prizes!
The National Theatre for Children, in partnership with Duke Energy, recently brought the educational show, The Resource Force, to our school.  The show taught our students how we can do our part to save resources like water and electricity and how to be energy–wise at home.

As part of the program, Duke Energy is providing one free “Resource Reward” kit to every household associated with our school.  These kits are worth over $30 and are completely free, including free shipping!  They contain several tools to help you save energy in your home and save up to $200 on your energy bill every year!  If our school can get at least 100 sign-ups, we are entered into a drawing for cash prizes ranging from $1,000-$2,000! But even better:

Our school can directly earn money as a part of this program.  If our school gets 1—sign-ups for the free resource reward kit, OUR SCHOOL WILL AUTOMATICALLY WIN $100!!

You have until June 30, 2014 to sign up for a kit in order to be counted for the contest.  Click here to sign up.
